Flat. Actually the house was pretty cool. Not a vertical death box tower. Lots of quality materials. Definitely doesn’t fit the area... that is until they mow down all the other homes.

3 years from now we’ll all be like hey remember Edison bulb chandeliers wow that was pointless. They’re cool but I think they’re gonna age very poorly.

Quality is unique in the region, indeed. So many I see going up around Bellevue and Kirkland appear to be made of cardboard, foam, and compressed oatmeal, with an eventually porous coating.

A couple years ago, the building I live in needed to have its outer skin removed and replaced - at 10 years old. I suspect single family homes, where owners might not be as vigilant, may fare worse.

I wish I could say more, but there is... in my opinion... some new construction owned by particular companies building in certain areas... that I will be curious to see withstand the test of time.

In the south sound I see 90s-00s era tract housing looking kind of run down already. There will be some rough looking yet not too old neighborhoods out there in another 10-20 years. I suspect some stuff built now will be the same. I live in Bellevue, where price should buy quality - yet I doubt it. The cheap windows always catch my eye.

And my grandmother’s mid century rambler still looks nearly new, as it was built right and taken care of.

Those vertical boxes make me ill. A friend of mine’s family lives in Kirkland, west of Market, early postwar bungalow neighborhood. The boxes are replacing the solid but small old houses.
